Christian Belter

PIANO

Praised for his versatility, Ottawa-born pianist and composer Christian Belter has been involved in a wide variety of projects and performances both as a performer and as a composer.

From being the organist for the St-Paul University graduation convocation (where he performed for the Most Reverend Archbishop of Ottawa-Cornwall Marcel Damphousse), to acting as house keyboardist in a local jazz club, to making his orchestral debut with the Ottawa Pops Orchestra this past spring, to making his JazzFest debut with the Capital Youth Jazz Orchestra this past summer, to scoring films that have made several festival appearances across multiple countries, Christian is not the type to stick to one particular thing. He holds a Bachelor's in Music Performance from Carleton University, where he pivoted from his classical foundation into jazz and composition. As a teacher, he adopts a "shoot first; ask questions later" approach, focusing on learning by doing. When he's not practicing, performing or teaching piano, he's either moving pianos, tuning them, writing music, reading dusty old books, or he's at church.
